claude-mem · Persistent Memory Plugin for Claude Code
Plugin that records what happens in agent sessions, compresses it and adds relevant context back into later sessions.

What you are opening
Use it when you want Claude Code (or Codex through T3 Code) to remember decisions and fixes from earlier sessions without pasting notes by hand.
How to set it up
- Decide whether memory should stay local, then run the installer with the matching option.
- Restart Claude Code so the hooks load.
- Work for a session, then check what was saved before relying on it.
Requirements and third-party terms
Node.js 20 or later; the installer adds Bun and uv if they are missing. By default it asks you to sign in to the publisher’s hosted memory service, which starts a 30-day trial. To keep memory local, pass an explicit --provider flag or set CLAUDE_MEM_ONLINE_OPTIN=false. The snippets pin npm release 15.8.1 (tag v15.8.1), checked on Nov 2, 2026. npm install -g claude-mem installs the library only and does not register the hooks. Listed ≠ audited. Review scripts before running.
What claude-mem is, and what it is not
claude-mem by thedotmack (thedotmack/claude-mem, Apache-2.0) is a plugin: lifecycle hooks record what happens in agent sessions, a local worker compresses it, and relevant context is fed back into later sessions. This page is the directory entry and install notes. It is not Anthropic’s product page, not a same-name skill package from skills.sh or another marketplace, and not a hosted memory service run by AgentSkillsDir. We pin thedotmack/claude-mem only and install nothing from this page.
Local memory or the hosted trial
A plain npx claude-mem install asks you to sign in by email and starts a 30-day trial of the publisher’s hosted observer; after sign-in you choose the provider (their observer, your own OpenRouter or Gemini key, or your Anthropic plan). To skip the account step, set CLAUDE_MEM_ONLINE_OPTIN=false or pass an explicit --provider flag, as the Setup tab does. Sessions and observations go into a local SQLite database run by the worker; Cloud Sync to cmem.ai is a separate setting.
Codex: through T3 Code, not a native plugin
The v15.8.1 README documents npx claude-mem install --ide t3code, which registers claude-mem for the providers T3 Code manages, including T3-managed Codex. It does not describe a native, official Codex plugin, and we do not claim one. The Codex tab uses that path; AgentSkillsDir has not run it yet (not verified by AgentSkillsDir). Restart T3 Code, trust the provider hooks when asked, and start a new thread.
First checks after installing
Restart Claude Code so the hooks load, work through one session, then open a new one and confirm earlier context appears. Before relying on it, check what was saved in the local viewer. If nothing appears, run npx claude-mem doctor. On Windows, hooks call %LOCALAPPDATA%\claude-mem\bin\claude-mem.exe; restart the terminal or IDE so the new Path is picked up.

FAQ
What is claude-mem?
A plugin by thedotmack that records agent sessions, compresses them and adds relevant context back into later sessions, starting with Claude Code. The source is thedotmack/claude-mem on GitHub under Apache-2.0.
How do I install claude-mem?
Inside Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add thedotmack/claude-mem, then /plugin install claude-mem. Or run CLAUDE_MEM_ONLINE_OPTIN=false npx claude-mem@15.8.1 install in a terminal. Restart Claude Code afterwards. Do not use npm install -g claude-mem: it installs the library only and registers no hooks.
Can I keep claude-mem memory local instead of the hosted trial?
Yes. The default installer offers sign-in and a 30-day hosted trial. Set CLAUDE_MEM_ONLINE_OPTIN=false or pass an explicit --provider flag and it completes without any account step. Memory itself is kept in a local SQLite database unless you turn on Cloud Sync.
Does claude-mem work with Codex?
Through T3 Code: the upstream README documents npx claude-mem install --ide t3code for T3-managed Codex. We do not list it as a native Codex plugin, and AgentSkillsDir has not verified this path yet (not verified by AgentSkillsDir).
claude-mem is not working on Windows. What should I check?
Confirm Node.js 20+ and npm are on your PATH, then restart the terminal or IDE so the claude-mem launcher in %LOCALAPPDATA%\claude-mem\bin is found. If hooks report that claude-mem is not found, run npx claude-mem doctor and follow the upstream troubleshooting guide. Git Bash is not required.
claude-mem installed but sessions do not remember anything. Why?
Restart Claude Code after installing so the hooks load, and start a new session rather than continuing an old one. Check the local viewer for saved observations, then run npx claude-mem doctor. Installing with npm install -g alone will not work, because it registers no hooks.
Is this the claude-mem package on skills.sh?
No. This entry pins thedotmack/claude-mem only. Same-name skills or packages on skills.sh or other marketplaces come from different publishers; check the repository owner before installing.
Why is there no /skills/claude-mem page?
claude-mem is a plugin, so its single page lives at /plugins/claude-mem. The /skills/claude-mem address permanently redirects here.
