Playwright MCP Server

Microsoft’s MCP server for driving a real browser through accessibility-tree snapshots instead of screenshots.

Published by microsoftmicrosoft/playwright-mcp

What you are opening

Use it when an agent needs to open pages, click, fill forms and read results in a real browser. Tools work on the page’s accessibility tree, so no vision model is needed.

How to set it up

  1. Add the server with the Claude Code or Codex snippet.
  2. Restart the client and approve the Playwright tools.
  3. Ask the agent to open a page you own and describe what it sees before allowing form input.

Requirements and third-party terms

Node.js 18 or newer and a supported browser. The README installs @playwright/mcp@latest; the snippets here pin npm release 0.0.83, checked on Oct 19, 2026. Listed ≠ audited. Review scripts before running.

Before you add it

  • Read the instructions and review any scripts before running them.
  • Check tool access, required credentials and third-party network requests.
  • The source license and any resource-specific terms take precedence.
