What it is, and what it is not
- It is desktop, Docker and phone software that runs voice models on your hardware. The app asks before it downloads any model; installed models can run offline.
- It ships an agent skill (skills/voicestudio/SKILL.md) and mounts an MCP endpoint, so Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents can generate speech and transcribe through your local backend.
- It is not a hosted cloud TTS service, and not something you can use from this page.
The skill is not the app
Installing the skill only teaches your agent how to talk to VoiceStudio. The agent still needs a running backend, by default http://localhost:3900. Start the desktop app or the Docker container first, then add the skill or the MCP connection.
Install
Commands copied from the upstream README and docs/install/docker.md at commit 4d4cb0badf99 on 31 Oct 2026. We have not run them ourselves; check the README before you install.
A. Install script (macOS / Linux)
Run in your terminal (README, “Get started”)
curl -fsSL https://voicestudio.sh/install | shIf voicestudio.sh is unreachable, the README gives a fallback straight from the repository: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/debpalash/VoiceStudio/main/scripts/install.sh | sh. Read any script before piping it to sh.
B. Install script (Windows PowerShell)
Run in PowerShell (README, “Get started”)
irm https://voicestudio.sh/install.ps1 | iexPrefer a normal installer? The latest release lists Windows .exe, macOS .dmg, Linux AppImage / .deb / Snap, Android .apk and an iOS sideload .ipa. The app asks before it downloads any model.
C. Docker (CPU, official GHCR image)
Run on a headless or AMD64 host (docs/install/docker.md)
export OMNIVOICE_API_KEY="$(python3 -c 'import secrets; print(secrets.token_urlsafe(32))')"
docker pull ghcr.io/debpalash/voicestudio:stable
docker run -d --name omnivoice \
-p 127.0.0.1:3900:3900 \
-e OMNIVOICE_API_KEY="$OMNIVOICE_API_KEY" \
-v omnivoice-data:/app/omnivoice_data \
ghcr.io/debpalash/voicestudio:stableThe admin API key is required even on a loopback port. First run downloads about 2.4 GB of model weights (docker logs -f omnivoice). Add --gpus all for NVIDIA; AMD uses the :stable-rocm tag; ARM64 NVIDIA uses :stable-cuda-arm64. :stable follows releases, :latest is the rolling main build. Apple Silicon should use the native macOS app instead.
D. Agent skill
Run in your terminal (README, “Agent skills”)
npx skills add debpalash/VoiceStudioChoose voicestudio for audio work. The repo also ships voicestudio-maintainer, which is for people working on the VoiceStudio codebase itself. The skill does not install the app.

GPU or CPU?
No GPU is required. Upstream says the app is fully usable on the CPU, just slower; native GGUF engines can also use Vulkan on AMD, Intel and NVIDIA GPUs. We do not quote speeds; see the upstream performance page.
| Platform | Acceleration / status |
|---|---|
| macOS (Apple Silicon) | Metal (MPS) |
| Windows 10/11 x64 | NVIDIA CUDA · AMD ROCm (opt-in) · CPU |
| Linux x64 | NVIDIA CUDA · CPU |
| Docker (GHCR) | NVIDIA CUDA · AMD ROCm · CPU |
| Android 10+ / iOS 17+ | Early access · on-device, offline |
| Windows on ARM | Experimental · CPU (x64 backend under emulation) |
| Intel Mac | Limited · app UI only, connects to a remote backend |
Connect over MCP
The running backend mounts an MCP endpoint. Point any Streamable HTTP client at it and keep the trailing slash:
http://localhost:3900/mcp/The desktop app exports ready-made configs under Integrations for Claude Code (.mcp.json), Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json) and Codex CLI. The Codex CLI table from docs/mcp.md:
[mcp_servers.voicestudio]
url = "http://127.0.0.1:3900/mcp/"
http_headers = { "X-OmniVoice-Client-Id" = "codex-cli" }Clients that only speak stdio use the bundled Python shim (backend.mcp_shim). Upstream warns that the MCP transport is not authenticated: keep it on localhost or a trusted LAN, never on the open internet. Read docs/mcp.md
Minimal agent flow
Steps from the upstream SKILL.md. We have not run this flow ourselves yet.
- Check GET /health on http://localhost:3900 (or the address you configured).
- Discover contracts with GET /openapi.json and voices with GET /v1/audio/voices. Do not invent profile IDs.
- Generate speech with POST /v1/audio/speech, or transcribe with POST /v1/audio/transcriptions.
- Check the HTTP status and probe the saved file before calling it audio; an error body can land at the output path.
Authorized voices and AGPL
- Clone a voice only with its owner’s permission. This is upstream’s rule and ours.
- AGPL-3.0 covers the app, including commercial use under its terms. If you modify it and offer it over a network, AGPL obligations apply. Model weights, voices and generated output have their own licences, which the Model Manager shows. LICENSE-NOTICE.md
- Listing is not an audit. AgentSkillsDir has not reviewed this code for security. Read install scripts before running them.
FAQ
What is VoiceStudio?
debpalash/VoiceStudio (AGPL-3.0) is open-source software for local voice cloning, voice design, dubbing, dictation, transcription and narration. It ships an official agent skill and an MCP endpoint.
Is this the same as voicestudiohq?
No. This page covers debpalash/VoiceStudio only. Other repositories with a similar name are unrelated to this entry.
Was it called OmniVoice Studio?
Yes, in older packaging: the Docker Hub mirror is still palashdeb/omnivoice-studio and the former ghcr.io/debpalash/omnivoice-studio path is a compatible alias. The product is now VoiceStudio; its default engine is k2-fsa/OmniVoice.
What is the difference between the skill and the VoiceStudio app?
The skill tells your agent how to call a running VoiceStudio backend. If the app or Docker container is not running, the skill cannot generate audio.
How do I download and install VoiceStudio?
Use the official voicestudio.sh script (macOS/Linux) or install.ps1 (Windows), an installer from the GitHub releases page, or the ghcr.io/debpalash/voicestudio Docker image. Commands on this page were copied on 31 Oct 2026; we have not run them ourselves.
Do I need a GPU?
No. Upstream says the app is fully usable on the CPU, just slower. NVIDIA CUDA, Apple Metal, AMD ROCm and Vulkan (for GGUF engines) speed it up; see the upstream performance page for numbers.
How is VoiceStudio different from ElevenLabs?
ElevenLabs is a hosted cloud voice platform; VoiceStudio is open-source software you run on your own machine, and it asks before downloading models.
Can I clone any voice?
No. Upstream says to clone a voice only with its owner’s permission. Model weights, voices and generated output carry their own licences, and AGPL-3.0 has obligations if you modify and serve the app over a network.
Does AgentSkillsDir host TTS or sell credits?
No. This is a source-linked directory page. We do not host VoiceStudio, generate audio or sell anything.
Are the star and release numbers current?
They are a dated snapshot from the GitHub API, shown with the time we checked. Open the repository for live numbers.
